The Do’s and Don'ts of Ouija Boards
As Halloween fast approaches, the use of Ouija boards is growing rapidly. Ouija boards are a fun tool that can be used to contact spirits from other realm, but taking necessary precautions is strongly advised. Here you will find my general UPG on the subject and some ways to protect yourself from a potentially dangerous/scary experience.
- Don’t use a ouija board under the influence of drugs or alcohol. It might sound fun, and hell I’ve even smoked some weed before doing it, but generally it’s just not a good idea and is not advised.
- Don’t do it in your house, or someone else’s house (unless you genuinely don’t like that person and have ill will). Why? Because you might invite a spirit in and they might decide that it’s a cozy little place and they may move in without asking.
- Don’t aggravate the spirit. If you’re a nonbeliever or with a skeptic, try not to ruin everyone else’s time by being a Debbie Downer and pissing the spirit off in the process.
- Don’t ask the spirit to move objects or “prove” that they are there. You a giving them permission to do what they want in your environment, giving them a bit more dominion over the situation.
- Don’t forget to close the board. After saying “goodbye”, most times the spirit will move the planchette to the word on the board. If this doesn’t happen, try to say “goodbye” again, nicely. If the spirit still doesn’t move to goodbye, do it yourself, and thank it kindly.
- Don’t assume that all spirits tell the truth. Some of them are tricksters and some of them lie.
- Do light some incense, light a candle. I would recommend some sandalwood, sage, or dragonsblood incense and a white candle to promote protection and attract good spirits. You can also leave a bowl of water as an offering or some food.
- Do sprinkle protective herbs and/or salt around your area or have some handy near you. Here is a list of some protective herbs you can use.
- Do respect the spirit you are talking to. Treat them as a guest, even if they’re being unkind.
- Do go somewhere other than your house or your friend’s house. Like your arch nemesis’ house, perhaps (sarcasm…maybe). Try not to choose somewhere that will invoke fear in the participants but rather somewhere fun and inviting.
- Do say a prayer or ask your god/goddess of choice, guardians, and/or spirit guides to look over you while you’re using your ouija board.
- Do thank the spirit kindly and make sure you say “Good Bye” to let them know that you wish to cease contact.
Other Tips:
- A silver coin on the board is said to protect against demons
- If the planchette moves in a figure-eight pattern, the spirit is said to be evil or have evil characteristics, in which case you should move the planchette to “goodbye” immediately and ask them kindly to leave.
- Gently smacking the planchette on a firm surface can help remove bad energy as well as sprinkling salt, lavender, or passing it through a flame (if using glass). You may also try a cedar or sage smoke cleansing afterwards.
- Using lavender, sandalwood, patchouli, rosemary, marshmallow root, dandelion, dittanny of crete, white willow, and wormwood (poison) can help you contact spirits.
- A little offering is always a good idea. It can be tea, bread, a bowl of water, burning a bit of incense.
- It’s easier to contact spirits at night due to the reduced amount of electrical activity in the atmosphere.
- Imagine a bright white light forming around you, the board, and the participants. Imagine it being a shield so that no harm can be done within that circle, only love and warmth. This should be done as a group activity and will help provide protection.
- Many spirits do not like giving their name.
- If someone is scared, nervous, or a skeptic, it’s probably a good idea that they do not participate. It only takes one weak link to bring the whole chain down.
- Have fun and be calm.
